Hubbard said they're working on rebuilding their friendship — though there's no immediate plans to reignite Florida Georgia Line

The country duo split in 2022 after 12 years together

Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, who were once country duo Florida Georgia Line, are working to rebuild their friendship.

During an appearance on Human School Podcast on Wednesday, Dec. 17, Hubbard, 38, reflected on the state of his friendship with Kelley, 40.

“I hadn't spoken to BK a lot in the last couple of years, but we're going on a hike next week, so the way I see it is, I have a desire for that friendship," Hubbard said of Kelley, with whom he recently reunited at the 2025 CMA Awards. "I miss the guy I was partners with for 10 years. I miss my old roommate, my best man at my wedding, and if nothing else, we should have a relationship."

“It doesn't have to be what it was, and it doesn't have to equal FGL doing anything, but we need to repair... and spend some time together face-to-face. And just walk and talk and hang, and go fishing or get a guitar out," he continued. "I'm excited for that, because yeah, it feels like, at this point, enough time has gone by."

Hubbard feels "what's happened has happened" but there hasn't been any "real repair" done. Still, he acknowledges that they're in "way different places in life" and they may never go back to what they were.

"What I'm hungry for is... Let me get my friend back," he said, adding that he's "hopeful" for this new season.

"It's like, dude, we had so many amazing years of blessings, and doing the craziest things that our wildest dreams couldn't have imagined, we should be doing life together in some capacity still," he continued.

Whether they're planning on reviving Florida Georgia Line or just working to rebuild the friendship, they're "both making an effort," Hubbard said.

Florida Georgia Line announced they were splitting up after 12 years together in August 2022 and both pursued solo careers afterward. At the time, the split came amid a rumored brief politically tinged spat on social media in 2020. However, both refuted talk of their differing opinions causing the fracture.

In May 2024, Hubbard and Kelley separately discussed the situation on the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, explaining how the disbandment happened over Kelley's desire to pursue solo work in addition to the band and Hubbard's lack of interest in doing both at once.
