‘Sheriff Country’ Reunites Morena Baccarin & Ben McKenzie Onscreen in Season 2

It’s a family affair on Sheriff Country in Season 2 — and not just because Sheriff Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) is dealing with having her mother, Santos (Rachel Ticotin), whom she thought was dead, back in her life.

Baccarin’s husband, Ben McKenzie will guest star this season, TV Insider has learned. He’ll be playing Sheriff Wade, a neighboring sheriff who is called in to assist Mickey, in the Season 2 premiere, airing on Friday, October 9. Check out photos above and below of the two in the episode and behind the scenes, and watch the fun video Baccarin shared of herself and McKenzie on set below. They previously worked together on Gotham.

CBS has also released the logline for the Season 2 premiere, titled “Cyclone”: “As Sheriff Mickey Fox struggles to process a shocking revelation about her family, she races to save a troubled young woman whose descent into a dangerous criminal operation uncovers a growing threat to all of Edgewater. Ben McKenzie guest stars as Sheriff Wade, a neighboring Sheriff who is called in to assist Sheriff Mickey, and has a few secrets of his own.”

Based on that logline and the episodic photo of the two, Mickey and Wade will be crossing paths at some point when Mickey’s either not on the job or perhaps undercover. It also feels inevitable that sparks could maybe fly between their characters but not necessarily go anywhere, given that tease about Wade having some secrets — and after what Mickey just dealt with in her last relationship, the last thing she needs is more drama there.

Sheriff Country left off with Mickey learning that her love interest, DEA agent Alec (Wes Chatham), was dirty. She worked with Boone (Matt Lauria) and Santos to trap him, and that was a success. But in the final moments of the finale, Santos tried to recruit Mickey to work with her and her father Wes (W. Earl Brown) to take down a Bulgarian cartel … and that was when Wes revealed the DEA boss is the sheriff’s mother. That will all be unpacked in Season 2.
