Kate Middleton and Prince William brought someone special to King Charles' Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace: their longtime nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo.
On Dec. 16, Borrallo was spotted in the backseat of a car driven by Prince William, with Princess Charlotte in the passenger's seat. The extended royal family came together on Tuesday for the King's Christmas luncheon at the palace in London, which the Prince and Princess of Wales attended with their three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.
It was a rare appearance for the family's nanny, who has been with them since Prince George was 8 months old and previously lived with them at Kensington Palace.
“Maria loves the children dearly. She can be firm and strict, but she is very loving and soft with them too," a source previously told PEOPLE.

Borallo has looked after George, Charlotte and Louis behind the scenes of many royal events through the years, from Trooping the Colour to royal tours and weddings.
She is also a pro at the royal family's Christmas lunch, a holiday tradition that King Charles has continued from the late Queen Elizabeth's reign, previously attending in other years.

Borallo was born in Spain and is a graduate of the elite Norland College, which touts itself as the only institution where students can earn a degree in early childhood education alongside the skills-based Norland diploma. Those enrolled learn everything from child brain development and first aid to evasive driving techniques, inspiring the nickname "Mary Poppins meets James Bond."
Norland Nannies also get to wear the college's uniform, which founder Emily Ward designed after establishing the school in 1892 "to ensure that graduates were recognized as professionals in their own right, much like a professional nurse," its website says.
Borrallo has sported the uniform for public outings with the royal family before, including Princess Charlotte's christening in 2015.

The Prince and Princess of Wales' nanny regularly joins the family for vacations and stays with them at their country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk, but she stopped living with them in 2022.
That summer, Prince William, Princess Kate and their children made the move from Kensington Palace in London to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, and the new house had only four bedrooms. Borrallo stayed on as the family's nanny, but was expected to live at another property, like other members of their household staff.
This fall, the Wales family moved again to Forest Lodge in Windsor, and the eight-bedroom residence might mean there's enough room for nanny Maria to sleep over.
