The New York Giants are signing veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. following a workout with the team, they announced on social media Monday.

The announcement confirmed a previous report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Monday. Beckham, along with three other veteran wideouts, worked out for the club on Monday after veteran receiver Gunner Olszewski sustained a season-ending Achilles tear in May.

The 33-year-old Beckham did not play in the NFL last season.

Beckham played the first five years of his career with the Giants after being selected 12th overall by the club in the 2014 NFL Draft. He dazzled immediately, making highlight grabs en route to a 1,305-yard, 12 touchdown rookie season. His leaping one-handed grab that season still stands up as one of the game’s most legendary catches.

That performance in 2014 was strong enough for Beckham to win the Rookie of the Year award that season.

His strong production continued over the next handful of seasons. Beckham topped 1,000 receiving yards in four of his five seasons with the franchise, his only blip coming when he was limited to just four games in 2017 due to an ankle injury.

After a bounce-back year in 2018, Beckham was traded to the Cleveland Browns ahead of the 2019 NFL season. While Beckham gained over 1,000 receiving yards in his first season with the team, his production cratered the following years. Beckham gained just 319 yards in seven games with the team.

He got off to another slow start in 2021, and was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. While his yards per game didn’t change, Beckham found the end zone five times in Los Angeles’ final eight regular-season games.

Beckham found his groove in the playoffs, where he scored a touchdown in the team’s wild-card win, gained over 100 receiving yards in the NFC championship and put the Rams up 7-0 early in the Super Bowl with a score.

Beckham, however, had to leave that game early with an ACL injury. He gained 52 yards on just two catches — and scored a touchdown — before leaving the contest. The Rams went on to win the game, giving Beckham a Super Bowl ring.

The veteran did not play in 2022 after rehabbing from the injury. He returned to action the following season, gaining 565 yards with the Baltimore Ravens. He then spent 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, catching just nine balls in nine games.

Beckham went unsigned last season following that performance.

While the Giants took a chance on Beckham on Monday, he still has a long way to go to earn a spot on the roster. The Giants don’t have a particularly strong wide receiver depth chart, though the return of Malik Nabers should give them a legitimate star at the position.

There’s a lot of uncertainty behind Nabers on the team’s depth chart, however, which could give Beckham a shot to stand out if he still has something left in the tank. Given his previous connection to the Giants, Beckham having one more signature moment with the franchise would make for a tremendous story if he’s able to make the final 53-man roster.
