Katie Lee Biegel's family is her top "priority" when it comes to balancing everything in life.

While at the annual Gotham Ball in New York City, Biegel, 44, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about how she juggles raising her daughter and working as a chef and TV host.

"Well, I don't know how much balance I have, but I make my priority my daughter and my family, so that's always going to be number one for us, and then I have to fit everything else in around that," she said. "That's the way I like it. I love being home. I'm a homebody and so I love being home with my kid."

Biegel married her husband, Ryan, in 2018. They welcomed their daughter, Iris, in September 2020. "Welcome, baby Iris Marion Biegel 💕 9.2.20 💕Our hearts are so full," she wrote on Instagram at the time.

During Biegel's interview with PEOPLE, she expressed how "thrilled" she was to be at the Gotham Ball, which benefited the Food Bank for New York City, and shared just how much giving back to food banks is a "really important" cause.

"My job is all about the excess of food, and there are so many people right here in our city who are food insecure," she explained. "So I feel like that I have a duty to give back in this way."

Biegel added, "A couple of weeks ago, I took my daughter for the first time to the Bronx to the food packing facility and we did a day together packing boxes and she had the best time. I encourage people to start young with your kids."

"Well, The Kitchen was an incredible experience," she told PEOPLE. "I miss my co-host. I was texting with Geoffrey Zakarian yesterday and we were saying, 'I miss [you],' you know, 'We miss each other. We miss going in each other's dressing rooms and hanging out and just kind of, you know, BSing with each other.' "

"It was a great, great time and I'm so grateful for it, and grateful for the experience we had," she added.
