Dave Chappelle wants Eddie Murphy to know that his late older brother Charlie was always telling the *Chappelle's Show* team how "proud" he was of Eddie.

Charlie memorably starred alongside Chappelle on the iconic sketch comedy series, and during Netflix's *AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Eddie Murphy*, Chappelle honored Eddie by reflecting on his time with Charlie, who died in 2017 at the age of 57 after a battle with leukemia.

"*Chappelle's Show* was very difficult to do, but it was one of the greatest experiences of my life, and one of the reasons that it was great was your brother Charlie," Chappelle told Eddie. "Charlie used to tell us stories all day about your ascension to fame, and I just want you to know, every time he mentioned you, he always said how proud he was of you. He said, 'I love my brother.'"

Two years older than Eddie, Charlie appeared in many of his younger brother's films, including 2007's *Norbit*, which they co-wrote together. But Charlie's big moment came when he starred on Comedy Central's *Chappelle's Show* from 2003 to 2006.

Charlie's most memorable sketches were "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories," and a season 2 segment that featured the true tale of a 1985 night out for the Murphy brothers that started at the club and ended at Prince's house with a game of basketball and pancakes. (Charlie played himself, while an actor served as a stand-in for Eddie.)

"That is totally and absolutely accurate," Eddie recalled in 2021. "My brother was like, 'Okay, it's going to be shirts against blouses.' [*Laughs*] The blouses won, they beat the s--- out of us.'"

In his tribute to Eddie, Chappelle revealed that he recently went over to his friend's house for an impromptu visit, and they shared stories of Charlie — and an idea for a *Chappelle's Show* return.

"Me and Eddie, for the first time, talked about Charlie since he passed," Chappelle said. "I hadn't seen him, or really had an occasion to speak about it, and in the midst of conversation, Eddie was the one that said, ‘Man, you should do a *Chappelle's Show* movie or something like that,’ and I said, ‘Man, that would be tough, that's your brother.’ So Eddie, if I do it, [you] do the Charlie parts, and let's f---ing go. "
