Some stars wait a little longer to become dads.
The Odd Couple alum Tony Randall became a father for the first time in his 70s when he married Heather Harlan, who was 50 years his junior, in 1995. Other stars, like Robert De Niro, had kids over the course of multiple decades.
De Niro has seven children who were born in 1971, 1976, 1995, 1995, 2011 and 2023, respectively. The GoodFellasactor was 79 years old when he welcomed his youngest daughter, Gia.
“The kids all get a big kick out of her,” De Niro told PEOPLE in February 2024. “The grandkids even. She’s their aunt — [and] they’re about to be teenagers!”

Charlie Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin welcomed 11 children over the course of his lifetime, with his youngest, Christopher, arriving when Chaplin was 73 years old.
The legendary filmmaker became a father for the first time with the birth of his son, Norman, on July 7, 1919. Christopher was born almost exactly 43 years later, on July 6, 1962.
On Dec. 25, 1977, Chaplin died at the age of 88 in Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland.

Anthony Quinn

Mexican-American actor Anthony Quinn starred in over 150 films throughout his career, including Viva Zapata! (1952) and Zorba the Greek (1964).
The star, who died at 86 years old on June 3, 2001, was a father to 12 children. His oldest, Christopher, was born in 1938 and later drowned in a neighbor’s pool in 1941.
Quinn continued to welcome children into the 1990s. His daughter Antonia was born in ‘93, when he was 78, while his son Ryan was born in ‘96, when he was 81.
“I think that this time I’m a better father,” Quinn said on Larry King Live in 2000, per CNN. “I’m absolutely madly in love with my two children, not that I don’t love the others. I have great love affairs with my other kids. But these kids I haven’t spent a day away from.”

Tony Randall

Randall was an Emmy-winning actor and comedian, best known for his portrayal of Felix Unger in the 1970s ABC sitcom The Odd Couple.
The actor was married to his high school sweetheart, Florence Gibbs, from 1938 until her death in 1992. In 1995, he married Harlan when he was 75 and she was 25. The couple later welcomed two children, daughter Julia and son Jefferson. In 2004, Randall died age of 84 when his kids were 7 and 5 years old, respectively.
“Since he couldn’t have kids with his first wife, he desperately wanted them — so he was an incredibly loving father,” Harlan told Marie Claire in January 2008. “And a great provider — his children have everything they will ever need.”

Saul Bellow

Saul Bellow was a prolific author who received the 1976 Nobel Prize in Literature. He was also a dad to three sons and one daughter, the latter of whom was born in 1999 when Bellow was 84 years old.
Bellow welcomed his youngest, Naomi, with his fifth wife Janis Freedman. He died six years later at the age of 89 on April 5, 2005.
“Well, my wife won’t be lonely when I die. She’ll have somebody,” Bellow told Time in 2000 of his daughter, adding, “[My friends] try to kid me, but I say, ‘Practice makes perfect.’ ”

James Doohan

James Doohan was known for playing chief engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott on the original Star Trek TV series.
The actor was also married three times and had seven children, including four from his first marriage to Janet Young and three from his third marriage to Wende Braunberger.
Doohan and Braunberger married when they were 54 and 18, respectively. In 2000, their daughter, Sarah, was born. Doohan died five years later at the age of 85 on July 20.

Al Pacino

Al Pacino embraced new parenthood again in his 80s. The Godfatherstarbecame a father for the fourth time in 2023 at the age of 83 when he welcomed his son, Roman, with his then-girlfriend Noor Alfallah. He also has three adult children from previous relationships.
In October 2024, Pacino told the BBC that he and Roman no longer live together, but that his son does text him “from time to time.”
“You know, I have this little person. Everything he does is interesting to me,” he said. “So we talk. I play the harmonica with him and we have made this kind of contact. So it’s fun.”

Robert De Niro

De Niro has seven children and four grandchildren. Theactor had two kids with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, another two with his ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith and another two with his second wife, Grace Hightower.
In 2023, De Niro welcomed his youngest child, daughter Gia, with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen. He was 79 years old at the time.
“She’s such an adorable baby. So sweet,” he told PEOPLE of Gia in February 2024. “[When I] look at her, everything else goes away. So it’s a great joy and relief to just be with her in the moment.”

Pretty Woman star Richard Gere has one son, Homer, with his first wife, Carey Lowell, and two younger children with his wife, Alejandra Silva.
Homer was born when Gere was 50 years old in 2000. Nearly two decades later, the actor became a dad again when he and Silva welcomed Alexander and James in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Gere was 70 years old when James was born.
“I love my wife. She’s incredible, a great mother,” Gere said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonin November 2024. “The kids are healthy, happy. Of course, there’s nothing more than that.”

Rolling Stonesfrontman Mick Jagger has eight children, six grandkids and three great-grandkids.
At 73 years old, the musician welcomed his youngest son, Deveraux, with former ballerina Melanie Hamrick in 2016.
“You get a bit out of practice — it’s not like riding a bike. The more children you have, the more laissez-faire you get about them, to be honest,” Jagger told The Guardianin October 2023. “It’s fun to have children, at any age. But if you’re working, and always away, you don’t get to enjoy it as much.”

Former Formula One Group chief executive Bernie Ecclestonewelcomed his fourth child, son Ace, in 2020 when he was 89 years old. Ecclestone shares Ace with his wife, Fabiana Flosi, who is 46 years his junior.
“I don’t see there’s any difference between being 89 and 29,” he told U.K. news agency PA Media of parenting later in life, according to CNN. “You’ve got the same problems I suppose. It’s all right.”

Frasierstar Kelsey Grammer has welcomed a total of eight kids over the course of his lifetime. He shares four children with his fourth wife, Kayte Walsh, the youngest of whom, Christopher, was born in 2025. The actor was 70 years old at the time.
“I have neglected a couple of the kids in my life, especially the first two,” Grammer told PEOPLE in May 2025. “I’m trying to make up for a little of it now. I’m still their dad, so you can always have [a] chance to show up.”

Canadian-American composer David Foster has six children, including son Rennie, whom he shares with his wife, Katharine McPhee. Rennie was born in 2021 when Foster was 71 and McPhee was 36.
“At this point in my life, it’s different again,” Foster told PEOPLE in January 2023 of having a toddler in his 70s. “Not better or worse, just different. I still work, I’m still gone a lot, but maybe the time is a little more precious to me because I got more runway behind me than I have ahead of me now.”
